Deming Isaacson presented his recollections at the Santa Barbara Historical Society on March 25th . He and Joe Knowles worked for Lutah in the 60’s and 70’s. Both are living archivists of the extraordinary body of work that spanned the Spanish Revival architecture movement that became the hallmark of the Santa Barbara Style.
Lutah Maria Riggs, architect and draftswoman was immensely talented and became George Washington Smiths lead designer within two years after working at his firm. She went on to establish herself in the world of architecture in the early 20th century and brought a fresh look to Santa Barbara with bold design concepts. Some of her most iconic structures are the Lobero Theatre and additions to the El Paseo.
The Santa Barbara Historical Museum is featuring her work with George Washington Smith, and the evolution of her own style is on exhibit through Spring 2015.
