With Spring fast approaching and all the recent rain we have received, there are some beautiful noteworthy areas to see beautiful fields of flowers. Two recommended areas are the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden and Figueroa Mountain. Definitely worth the visit at this time of year!
SB Botanical Gardens – “The Meadow”
At the very heart of the Botanic Garden is the Meadow Display. With its sweeping views across the 1.5 acre expanse up to Cathedral Peak and the Santa Ynez Mountains, the Meadow is one of the most distinctive and renowned features of the Garden. In spring the Meadow is famed for its spectacular show of wildflowers, with California poppy, meadow-foam, farewell-to-spring, succulent lupine and others vying for attention.
Figueroa Mountain Wildflowers
Figueroa Mountain wildflowers are many and varied: Johnny jump-ups, fiddlenecks, milk maids, blue dicks, Chinese houses, shooting stars and buttercups. One of my favorite sights is the pink prickly phlox blooming amidst the green serpentine rock formation. If you’re a true Californian, the sight of the poppy, our official state flower, near outcroppings of serpentine, our official state rock, will really make your day.
