On Friday November 1, community leaders, Franklin Trail organizers, volunteers and Carpinteria area residents welcomed back an old friend… The Franklin Trail! The ribbon cutting event celebrated the first phase of the trail opening – a 2.25 mile segment designated by the county as multiple use (available to hikers, bike riders and equestrains). The second phase involves the remaining five miles to the peak of the Santa Ynez mountains.
Efforts to reopen the trail, which was closed the last time in the 1970s, have been underway for some time with organizations such as Friends of the Franklin Trail and The Land Trust for Santa Barbara County helping to lead the way. The full article is available here at Noozhawk.
